How pricing works
A replacement is priced to the house, not to a list. Here is what moves the number, and when you see it.
What decides the price
Five things move a replacement more than anything else.
Capacity from the load calculation
Efficiency tier and one-stage or variable speed
Venting, gas line and electrical
Duct condition and any changes
Permit and old-equipment removal
What the quote includes, and what it doesn't
Each quote names the equipment and what is in the price.
Make, model and capacity, with altitude data
Permit, haul-away and start-up test
Not included unless listed: duct rebuilds, drywall, electrical beyond the disconnect
How long the quote holds
What happens at the visit
We spend time at the house before any number is written.
We look at the equipment, venting and ducts
We measure for the load calculation
We tell you the visit fee, if there is one, and whether it is credited toward the work
How and when you pay
The quote lists the payment schedule, so there is no surprise at the end.
What is due at signing
What is due when the work is done
How to pay
If the job changes
Sometimes opening a wall or a flue shows something new.
We stop and tell you what we found
Any change is priced and agreed in writing first
You can say no
When you get the number
In writing, after the visit and the load calculation.
Not by phone or from a photo
A few working days after the visit
Good for the number of days written on the quote

Every line, in order
The quote is a document you can read at your own table. This is what it holds.

Questions
About the quote
Will you give me a price over the phone?
We can talk about what drives it. We don't quote a replacement without seeing the house, because the load, the venting and the ducts decide the number.
Can I compare your quote with another firm's?
Yes, please do. Ask each firm for the load calculation and the altitude data. A quote that lists the equipment, the permit and the exclusions is easy to compare.
What do you ask me to know before the visit?
The age of the system if you know it, and where the filter and the outdoor unit are. A photo of the label on the furnace helps.
