The calendar

What we do each season, and what you do

Dates move with the weather. A late freeze or an early hailstorm shifts the calendar, and we shift with it.

What we do each season, and what you do
What you doWhat we do
SeptemberWhat you doBook a furnace check, and replace the filterWhat we doFurnace checks begin; replacement installs are easiest to schedule now
October – NovemberWhat you doTest the carbon monoxide alarm and the thermostat; clear leaves from the vent and intakeWhat we doFirst cold nights bring the heating calls; replacements are booked around repairs
December – FebruaryWhat you doKeep snow off the vent and intake; call at the first odd noise or smellWhat we doFurnace repair and replacement, in the order the house can least stay cold
March – AprilWhat you doUncover and rinse the outdoor unit; decide about a hail guardWhat we doAir conditioner checks and quotes; a good time to plan a replacement
May – JuneWhat you doCheck the coil for bent fins; keep the grass cut back from the unitWhat we doHail season starts; guards are fitted before it peaks
July – AugustWhat you doAfter hail, switch off at the disconnect and call before restartingWhat we doAir conditioner repair and replacement; checks of the outdoor unit after storms

Plan ahead

Three dates worth writing down

  • First hard freeze

That's when furnaces that were never checked get found out. A check in September is a visit; a failure in December is a cold house.

  • Start of hail season

Roughly May to August on the Front Range. Decide about a guard before it begins, not after the first storm.

  • The week you notice a problem

Don't wait for the weather to make it worse. We book replacements around real dates, and we say so if a repair will do.

Questions

When to replace

When is the best time to replace a furnace?

Spring or early fall, when we can set the day by your schedule and not by a cold snap. If it fails in winter, we plan the work to keep the house warm.

Do you replace air conditioners in the summer?

Yes. Summer is busy, so book as soon as you decide, and expect a shorter list of install days in a hot spell.

What does the first visit cover?

The visit covers the equipment, the venting, the ducts and the load. We tell you the visit fee, if there is one, when you book, and whether it is credited toward the work.
